It's Monday morning and you promise yourself that this is the day you begin your new diet. By Monday afternoon, with a couple of cheeseburgers and fries under your belt, you wonder what happened to the promise you made to yourself.
Now that you've blown it, you might as well wait til next Monday, you rationalize to yourself, as you chow down on extra crispy fried chicken for dinner. Do you ever wonder why you can't stick to your diet? For that matter, do you wonder why your lifestyle is killing you? Why you don't exercise like you should. Why you drink too much for your own good. Why you let yourself be stressed out by working too many hours. It's not that you are lazy, stupid or morally inferior.
Rather there are factors outside your awareness that keep throwing you under the bus. I know what these factors are. How do I know? Because my lifestyle almost killed me.
After 25 years as a psychologist, I underwent quadruple by pass surgery. Since then I have been preoccupied with two questions. Why do intelligent people like me engage in unhealthy lifestyles? Why couldn't I stick to a healthy lifestyle even though my health depended on it?
I want to share what I learned with you. Interested?
